Daily Akokite
The Daily Akokite is the news platform arm of the Press Club of the University of Lagos. It is a platform for students to share their news and stories, as well as keep up with UNILAG's latest updates.

01. The Problem
There was a need to remodel the existing Unilag News Website to be more modern and responsive. As well as a rebrand of the news platform. The challenge was to give a minimalist and modern look to the news platform.
02. The Logic
Implemented functional Home, About, and Contact pages.
Rebranded the news platform with a modern and minimalist design, while keeping consistent with brand colors
Added a latest news section on the home page for users to view newest stories at a glance.
03. The Stack
04. The Solution
Implementation Result
Developed a responsive, lightweight WordPress interface using the Astra framework. I focused on a high-contrast typography scale and a custom grid layout that mimics modern digital broadsheets, ensuring the brand colors were used as functional accents rather than distractions.
Key Outcomes
- 01.Achieved improved load time through image optimization and asset minification.
- 02.100% mobile responsiveness across all major student device viewports.
- 03.Increased homepage click-through rate (CTR) to individual articles via a revamped 'Featured' grid.
Reflection
- In news-heavy interfaces, typography is the most important design element for user retention.
- Minimalism in a news context requires a strict visual hierarchy to prevent the homepage from feeling empty.
